Staying Safe While Working At Heights

Staying Safe While Working At Heights

#3 Fall protection systems

Think about it

  • A – Anchorages are a secure point of attachment (structure) for the fall restraint or fall arrest system.
  • B – Body support harnesses provide a connection point on the worker for the personal fall protection system.
  • C – Connectors are devices used to connect the worker’s full body harness to the anchorage system, such as energy absorbing lanyard or self-retracting lanyard.
  • D – Descent and rescue devices are used to raise or lower a fallen or injured worker to safety or retrieve them from a confined space.
  • E – Education Training in safely working at heights, use of fall protection PPE, use of access equipment, etc.
  • F – Fall protection for tools Use of tool lanyards, wrist bands, tool belts and tool pouches to prevent dropped tools and falling objects.

Talk about it

  • Do you ensure that the anchor point for attaching your harness lanyard is as high as possible above your head to reduce potential injury in the event of
    a fall?
  • Have you recently been trained and certified to work at heights and with the use of fall restraint/arrest equipment and anchor points?

Act on it

  • The Working at Heights Standard defines the minimum mandatory requirements to eliminate or minimise the risk of fatalities, injuries, and incidents arising from working at heights.
