Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) Training

Empowering safety through leadership: Join Our VFL Training Programme

Safety has been identified as the top priority in Anglo American, with the goal being to achieve a zero harm situation. One of the tools for achieving this is Visible Felt Leadership (VFL), which is essentially a leadership process with a strong safety component. VFL is all about influencing people to do the right things – it is about connecting with people, showing that you care, and coaching them (where appropriate) about safety. Importantly, the emphasis is not on the technical aspects of safety but more on the behavioural (human) elements.

This half-day training programme covers the following:

  • Introduction/overview – safety in Anglo American (key elements and priorities)
    Leadership – key elements
  • Employee motivation and engagement – key elements
  • VFL – principles and key steps
  • Delegates get opportunity to role-play VFL skills
  • Delegates get feedback on VFL role-plays
  • Conclusion: sustaining good VFL practice and making it part of Anglo American’s corporate mindset

The training is practical, participative and delegates leave the session with a specific skill. The learning takes place in a relaxed and non-threatening environment – this maximises the impact of the learning.
