Empower our city: A call to action for Mandela Day 2024
HI EVERYONE
As Mandela said: “It is in your hands to make of the world a better place.” And so, every year on Mandela Day 18 July, people all over the world are invited to take action and inspire change by making a difference in their communities.
As a Jozi My Jozi partner we know that you value social responsibility and community engagement, and we want to take this opportunity to invite you to be part our Mandela Day campaign – a celebration of our collective power to create a movement for good and make a positive impact on the city we love – Jozi my Jozi!
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE?
We are focusing our 2024 Mandela Day work on two initiatives. For the first one we are partnering with Clean City SA and invite your organisation to ADOPT A BLOCK in Hillbrow to implement the largest inner city clean up on #MandelaDay2024. As a movement, we can make a significant impact by coming together and collaborating as the Jozi My Jozi corporate community, partners and citizens together with the city and the Hillbrow community, to live the vision of “unity” and to make a positive difference.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MAKE EVERY DAY A MANDELA DAY?
Mandela Day will also see the launch of our “Make every day Mandela Day” a 365-day campaign ADOPT A PROJECT as we encourage citizens of Joburg to volunteer their time and skills all year-round. The ADOPT A PROJECT website gives you the option of directly choosing a project to donate to or volunteer with. The projects range from small to large, and are suitable for families, couples, individuals or small businesses. They will change frequently as the needs are met. Complete the form at the bottom of the page if you have a project you would like us to consider for the “shopping basket “on the website.

Participating Jozi My Jozi partners are requested to register a minimum of 25 volunteers to the Adopt a Block – Clean up Hillbrow Mandela Day event. We are also asking each partner organisation or company to pay a participation fee of R25 000 regardless of the number of volunteers participating. This will cover event logistics as well as the post clean up get-together. Your contribution will also enable us to cover the cost of including the local Hillbrow community in the event.
HELP SPREAD THE WORD
Use your own network of family, friends, media, corporates and organisations to get involved and make a difference. We will be developing a toolkit for you to adapt and use to share your actions on social media, using the hashtags #MandelaDay2024 #ItsInYourHands
