At Anglo American, we know that our Value of Care and Respect is crucial to our physical, psychological and emotional safety. We can put this Value into action during times of change and uncertainty by caring about each other, looking after our own mental health, and making sure we know how to access support for ourselves, our colleagues, and our friends and families.
Think about it
Mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing. It affects how we think, feel, act, make choices, and relate to others. Self-care can play a role in maintaining your mental health and help support your treatment and recovery if you have a mental illness.
We cannot wait until things get difficult. Acting sooner rather than later reduces stress and heartache.
Be proactive about looking after your wellbeing and reach out for help when needed, this will make a big difference to our ability to not just cope but thrive during challenging times.
We also need to stay alert to be able to recognise when colleagues are struggling and encourage them to get help or get them help.
Talk about it
How can we make sure we are more aware of each other’s wellbeing? Do we regularly checkin on others to make sure they are OK?
Act on it
We may not be able to change what happens in the wider world around us, but we can make life easier for ourselves by focusing on what we can control, creating greater certainty in our day-to-day lives and prioritising our wellbeing.
