Outlook Web Access – Work When You Don’t Have Your Laptop

If your work computer is out of reach or unavailable for some reason, you can now check your work using Outlook Web Access (OWA).

Simply go to Outlook.office.com on any trusted non-work device, with your usual username and password.

Why would I do that?
It’s not a method we recommend you use often but if, for example, you:

• are working from home and your work computer develops a fault – and you need to access email and finish a presentation urgently;

• are away from work, something happens, and you need to join MS Teams for a meeting or revise a presentation quickly…

… you now have a secure way to do these things.

Please note: you cannot save documents to your non-work device from OWA, although you can save them to OneDrive in the browser.

It’s basically a method to use when you don’t have your PC at hand and working on a mobile device isn’t the best option.

Isn’t it a bit risky?
Not if you follow these security-related caveats:

  • Ensure you have provided two identification methods when you registered for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) (find out how to do this here)
  • Only use OWA when your work laptop/PC isn’t available.
  • Only use OWA on a trusted device and never on a shared or public machine,
  • Always sign out fully afterward.
  • Click on your photograph on the upper right-hand side of the screen to do so, then go to the dropdown menu and sign out.
