Step Aside Or Call Back
Safety first – pause before you pick up.
Safety is something we refuse to compromise on, regardless where we are or what we are doing. That means it’s unsafe for you to be on your cellphone while walking, because of the distraction it causes.
Remember:
- If you receive or want to make a call while walking, first step aside and stand still to do so.
- Remember that ‘being on your phone’ includes texting or reading messages.
- Consider that nearly all calls can wait; let your voicemail do what it’s supposed to.
- Show Visible Felt Leadership – if you spot someone walking while on their cellphone, stop them and be open to correction by others.
- Once you leave the building, not only is it unsafe to walk while on your cellphone; the risk of cellphone snatching escalates.
- Do not use your headset or ear pods whilst walking and talking, use your headset/ear pods at your desk.
- Do not use your cellphone whilst driving even in the parkade.
