#SuitupinSeptember For Prostate Cancer Awareness

Early detection saves lives.

September is International Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, when individuals, communities, organisations and the medical fraternity work to raise awareness around prostate cancer and access to treatment. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting South African men. The risk increases with age, with 70% of men over the age of 70 likely to be affected. Treatments are however highly effective, particularly if the disease is detected early.

In short, raising awareness about prostate cancer can save lives, as the disease detected in the early stages is curable. Men who have been educated about prostate cancer are much more likely to go for annual screening tests. Once prostate cancer has metastasised (spread to other parts of the body), it is not curable. It is important to note that there normally are no symptoms in the early stages of prostate cancer which is why screening is so important.

Men are encouraged to choose any day in September to ‘suit up’ and to wear a blue suit to work, to show their support for prostate cancer awareness.

Ladies – we also encourage you to come to work in a blue suit on any day/s in September, to show your support for prostate cancer awareness.
