The celebration of Mandela Day aims to serve as a global call to action for people to recognise their individual power to make an imprint and help change the world around them for the better. The theme for 2024 is “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”.

This Mandela Day, let’s honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy through acts of service.

 

Clean up the inner city with Jozi My Jozi

Jozi My Jozi, together with Clean City SA, are collaborating this Mandela Day to clean up Hillbrow by inviting corporates to ‘Adopt a Block’. Anglo American employees can sign up to spend 1- 2 hours cleaning up a block in Hillbrow. Transportation to and from Oxford Campus to Ellis Park will be provided. There will be a full briefing for all employees at Ellis Park Stadium, and cleaning equipment will be supplied. Employees will then be dropped off at a specific block to clean up the area. Please note that full security will be present, and all safety measures will be in place for the activity. Click on the link below to find out more and to sign up for this initiative.

Buses will depart at 07h30 at Tottenham Road, which you can access via the P2 parking level at 144 Oxford, returning at 12h00.

Dress warmly and comfortably. Company-branded clothing is permitted.

Food packing at GSS Oxford Parks

Employees will spend 67 mins making sandwiches and preparing food packs at GSS Oxford Parks. All food packs will be delivered to a soup kitchen in Johannesburg CBD. Click below to select a time slot to serve your 67 mins, noting that each session is limited to 20 employees. Please be advised that the first food packing session at GSS Oxford Parks begins at 08h30.

Employees participating in any one of these initiatives will receive an Anglo American branded beanie as a token of appreciation for your support.
