Let’s Talk Safety

#4 Accident prevention

Think about it

Identifying, avoiding and addressing hazards helps prevent injuries:

  • Do not remove guards or barriers
  • Always follow rules and instructions
  • Do not undertake any tasks you are not trained for or if you are under the influence of drugs and alcohol
  • Use your PPE and wear it correctly
  • Do not use faulty equipment
  • Do not overload scaffolding, workplaces, storage, hoists etc.
  • Manual handling should be done correctly and safely
  • Don’t direct compressed air at yourself or others
  • Keep your work area clear and clean
  • Do not handle and transport chemicals if you’re not trained to handle them
  • Obey all warning signals and signs
  • Don’t get complacent

Talk about it

  • Hazardous energy is any source of energy that can be dangerous due to a discharge of stored energy. What did you last do a safety share or toolbox talk on energy sources and related hazards and risks?

Act on it

  • Make sure you understand the hazards and risks in your working area. If in doubt, speak up. Asking questions can help prevent injuries.
