Socio-political Analysis Session

Join us virtually this afternoon as we hear the valued opinions of two of South Africa’s most respected figures in public policy.

Professors Somadoda Fikeni and Richard Calland, with decades of experience between them, will share valuable insights into South Africa’s socio-political realities and challenges, and the way forward in view of the upcoming elections.

Professor Somadoda Fikeni is a public figure who has held various leadership roles in the public sector, influencing public discourse, institution building and public policies. He is currently the chairperson of the Public Service Commission of South Africa as well as the chairperson of the Indlulamithi South Africa Scenarios Board of Trustees.

Professor Richard Calland came to South Africa in 1994, following seven years as a barrister in London. He stayed in South Africa to head a new parliamentary monitoring and information service at Idasa, a democracy thinktank. Richard is an Emeritus Associate Professor in Public Law at the University of Cape Town, following 16 years’ service as Associate Professor in Constitutional Law 2007 to 2023, and is also now a Visiting Adjunct Professor at the University of Witwatersrand School of Governance.
