Safety guidelines: Large Vehicles and Control Doors

Large vehicle guidelines

If you drive a large vehicle, such as an SUV (sports utility vehicle), 4×4, double cab bakkie, or any other car model with a lengthier than normal body, please be advised that you should avoid parking on the sloping ramps between the parkade levels at 144 Oxford, and rather park on flat surfaces, preferably in bays which do not have a wall behind them.

The reason is that large vehicles, when parked on the ramps, tend to protrude into the lanes, creating an obstruction and hampering the easy flow of traffic in and out of the parkade.

Please park your large vehicles only on the flat parking levels, and please defer to parking bays not restricted by walls at the rear.

Control door guidelines

The Fire and Smoke Control doors at 144 Oxford act as an effective measure for preventive fire protection. The effects of fire can be extremely destructive, and lives and livelihoods can be destroyed in a very short period of time. Preventive fire protection such as Fire and Smoke Control doors help to avoid or contain fires, and tackle them effectively if they do break out. By delaying the spread of fire and smoke, the doors give people in a building a life-saving advantage by allowing them enough time to evacuate the building.

Our Fire and Smoke Control doors around 144 Oxford are clearly marked as such, but can only be an effective protective measure if they remain closed. We therefore ask all colleagues to please ensure these doors are closed at all times, and to close any doors that may be found open.
