Zimele beneficiaries conclude training at 144 Oxford

Anglo American Zimele bids farewell to 10 beneficiaries of our Hospitality & Tourism Programme, who spent six months at the Nambitha Gardens kitchens as Assistant Chefs.

The beneficiaries joined the kitchen staff in January this year to gain experience following intensive training with Zimele’s implementation partner in the programme, Summit, as part of the speci c skilling programme for youths in our host communities.

Their training culminated into a Cook-Off Competition that was organised as part of their farewell. The beneficiaries were given a mystery basket of ingredients and had to prepare a meal of their choice, from which they were adjudicated by Chef Regev Afek and two others from Summit, after which a winner was chosen and prizes awarded.

The youths form part of the 3744 beneficiaries, trained in various vocations including as Attendants and Assistant Housekeepers, from the programmes rolled out at various host community sites for Anglo American Platinum and Kumba Iron Ore in 2022. Zimele is targeting to recruit and train a further 3 744 youths over the next four years. A total of 1 822 learners from this programme have been placed in employment.

Opportunities for large-scale placement of learners outside of host communities continue to be explored.

We wish the beneficiaries well in their future endeavours and hope that their stay at Anglo American was as enjoyable for them as it was for us.
