De Beers Group Launches Carbon Neutral Manifesto Following Climate Action Day

De Beers Group Launches Carbon Neutral Manifesto Following Climate

On Tuesday 8 November, our Climate Action Day, an engaging and inspiring event, was held in the De Beers lounge area and at the Imbizo Auditorium. It took place even as nearly 8500km away, COP27, the 27th Conference of the Parties, was underway in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, with 45 000 people including 120 world leaders in attendance.

For nearly three decades, the UN has been bringing together almost every country on earth at the annual COPs, to pool resources and agree on ways in which we can tackle climate change and speed up the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Our Climate Action Day at 144 Oxford saw many activities taking place. The Climate Action Team explained the purpose of the day to visitors, along with representatives from Kelp Blue, Ambassadors for Good and CircuLab. There were explanations of sustainable catering initiatives and FutureSmart MiningTM and the exciting Watt Bike Challenge, running at the Anglo American Gym until month-end, was launched.

We also had documentary film screenings running throughout the day at Imbizo Auditorium. Following the event, De Beers Group released their inspiring Carbon Neutral Manifesto, which details the classification of carbon emissions, outlines the priority areas for action and explains how we all can get involved and make a difference.

Read it here and make a decision to be part of our climate action movement.
