Get moving and join the 144 Oxford Running Club!

Did you know that twice a week, you can join other 144 Oxford colleagues in a pre-work run around the office precincts, on a 5km or 10km route? But let’s first discuss why you should run at all:

Running is convenient – You can do it anytime, anywhere.

Running is affordable – If you can afford the time, you can afford running. All you need is a good pair of running shoes and comfy clothes, and off you go.

It’s great for cardiovascular health – Your lungs, heart, and the vascular system will all become more effective and efficient at delivering oxygen throughout your body, especially to working muscles.

Running is easy to learn – You don’t need special skills to do it. You already learnt the art as a toddler; now just learn the proper form.

It can help you lose weight – Running can contribute hugely to your weight loss goals. Moving your body at a challenging pace will have a positive effect on your body composition.

It offers a natural high – It’s a real thing called ‘Runner’s High’, referring to a literal feeling of euphoria you get during or following a run. It comes from a boost in the brain’s serotonin, dopamine and endorphin levels.

You’ll work more than just your legs – When you run, you automatically engage your core muscles which also forces you to stabilise your hips. Having a stronger core then goes on to improve your balance, stability, and stamina in everyday activities.

‘Dem bones’ will thank you – Running can strengthen your bones as it is a weight-bearing exercise that helps build more density.

It can improve your mental wellbeing – Running can work wonders for your mental and emotional health. Apart from increased energy levels and decreased fatigue (yes, from exertion), your mood will improve. So it is a great natural treatment for stress, anxiety and depression.
