As conversations around our move to Rosebank gain momentum, we want to fill you in on where we are to date.

1. WHY IS THE JOHANNESBURG CAMPUS MOVING?

Last year, we engaged with you through a survey, a series of focus group discussions and one-on-one interviews. We wanted to understand what you want from your place of work. Your feedback was loud and clear: we need to re-imagine where and how we work, to create an environment that supports our purpose in a workplace that is safe, smart, collaborative and inclusive.

The new office is an important step in our vision of bringing all our business units and our corporate office together into one consolidated new home.

2. WHAT IS THE DECISION ABOUT THE WORKSPACE STRATEGY?

In line with your feedback and our future workplace strategy, we're excited to announce that we are moving to 144 Oxford Road, Rosebank.

3. WHAT DOES THIS ENTAIL?

Based on your feedback, the new location ticks most of the boxes. It is safe and accessible. It is close to public transport hubs and has a range of lifestyle facilities, such as shops, gyms and restaurants. It is also located in a business district of Johannesburg that will give us a strong visible presence for our brand and for the city.

4. WHEN WILL THE MOVE TAKE PLACE?

The first phase of the move will take place in Q2 of 2021.

5. WERE YOU ENGAGED AND GIVEN A SAY IN THE MOVE?

You are a fundamental part of this process. We asked for your feedback around what you want from your place of work, now and into the future. We conducted an online survey, a series of focus groups and one-on-one interviews. Your feedback played an important part in the decision to move, and the location we chose.

6. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE ANGLO AMERICAN CORPORATE OFFICE BUILDING IN THE CBD?

While we've been in the CBD for many decades, we must consider the need for modern infrastructure and a safer working environment for our employees. We remain committed to Johannesburg’s city centre, and this heritage is important to us. We will partner with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to repurpose our Johannesburg CBD Campus, so that the buildings can support the development of the inner city going forward and continue to build on our positive legacy in South Africa.

7. WILL KUMBA ALSO MOVE?

Our Johannesburg Corporate Office colleagues will be the first to move, while our Kumba Iron Ore colleagues will remain in their respective premises for now. This will ensure a smooth transition over time, as we work to ultimately bring all our business units together under one roof.

8. IS THE MOVE HAPPENING BECAUSE OF SAFETY CONCERNS IN THE CBD?

Ultimately, this move focuses on three key areas:

The future of work. It gives us the opportunity to work together, work safely and work smartly, using technology that encourages new and better ways of working.

Collaboration and connection. We want you to break the siloes and forge meaningful working relationships with one other. We need to be collaborative, innovative and future-focused.

Safety and accessibility. Safety is our number one priority. Your safety is as important to you as it is to us, and this played a big part in our decision to move. We also know that you want your new environment to be accessible – both in terms of getting to work, and for people living with disabilities.

9. WHAT PUBLIC TRANSPORT OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE IN ROSEBANK?

The new building is 350m away from the Rosebank Gautrain station, and less than 100m from the Rosebank taxi rank. A number of public bus routes operate on Oxford Road.

We are rolling out a number of two-way communication and engagement tools, which I encourage you to use.
