And this is what you need to know:<\/strong><\/p><p>From now until the end of the year, IM is rolling out Windows 11 to all Anglo American and De Beers colleagues at:<\/p><ul><li>144 Oxford, Johannesburg<\/li><li>17 Charterhouse Street, London<\/li><li>Everyone else will be moved across during 2024<\/li><\/ul><p>This upgrade is necessary because Windows 10 will reach end-of-support on October 14, 2025.<\/p><p><strong>What does this mean for you?<\/strong><\/p><p>1. Between now and the end of the year, your device will automatically download the installation files in the background \u2013 without interrupting or stopping you from using your device.<\/p><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-md-4\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.move-me.co.za\/life-at-oxfordcampus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/W11-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"306\" height=\"222\" \/><\/div><div class=\"col-md-8\"><p>2. Once the download is complete, you will receive a notification <strong>that you need to restart your device<\/strong> to run an update. This update will install Windows 11.<\/p><\/div><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5928\" src=\"https:\/\/www.move-me.co.za\/life-at-oxfordcampus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/W11-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1003\" height=\"363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dev.move-me.co.za\/life-at-oxfordcampus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/W11-2.png 1003w, https:\/\/dev.move-me.co.za\/life-at-oxfordcampus\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/W11-2-768x278.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1003px) 100vw, 1003px\" \/><\/p><\/div><p>3. You have two days to restart at a time that works for you. At the end of the two days, your machine will run the upgrade automatically.<\/p><p>4. This installation can take anything between 15 minutes and just over an hour, and <strong>during this time you will not be able to use your device<\/strong>.<\/p><p><strong>We recommend that you schedule this restart at the end of your working day or when you have a bit of free time, so you do not experience any unplanned downtime.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Is Windows 11 very different?<\/strong><\/p><p>IM ran a pilot to check the technical side of the upgrade and our early adopters say the process is straightforward and they like the new interface.<\/p><p>This is the first Windows build for what Microsoft calls the \u201cZero Trust\u201d world \u2013 i.e., it\u2019s more secure. It\u2019s also specifically designed to support hybrid work.<\/p><p>Microsoft says: \u201cFor users, we&#8217;ve removed distractions as you work, to make it easier for you to focus, with the new modern interface and refined aesthetics. For IT, we&#8217;ve made incremental improvements that are designed to fit like a glove in your existing management tools and processes.\u201d<\/p><p>IM doesn\u2019t think much has changed but you may want to look at the guides and videos on Eureka! or go online to familiarise yourself with the new operating system.<\/p><p><strong>Which devices are excluded from this upgrade?<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Devices (laptop or desktop) which do not meet the specific requirements defined by Anglo American IT.
